AIM Added To the List

May 3, 2008

A request was made for AIM Logging conversion. That request was completed. Digsby Log Converter will now convert Trillian, MSN, Yahoo, AIM, GAIM, Pidgin and Miranda Logs into Logs usable by Digsby.

Remember, all your old logs are not touched, so you can always keep them just in case. Maybe I find a bug in part of the conversion, you can rerun a new build against your old logs and all will be ok!

New Version (v1.0.0.6) (Click to Download)

  • Added AIM Support
  • Couple Tweaks in the code

Miranda No More

Wow, She gave up a fight but in the end Digsby (I) won. Using the Miranda plugin History++, I was able to convert logs from the Miranda database to XML files and then use the Digsby Log Converter to convert those to Digsby files.

    • times on side of logs were not showing up
    • hyperlinks fixed in Trillian

Yahoo! Messenger Added!

April 30, 2008

You all asked for it (ok…1 person), so here it is!

With the help of Yammy (http://yammy.sourceforge.net/) I was able to decode the yahoo files and convert them! I only had a couple Yahoo! logs, having only downloaded it two nights ago with the purpose of creating a couple logs, so please report any bugs.

So now we have Trillian, Gaim, Pidgin, MSN and Yahoo! all converted…

I was thinking of creating a “Create Simple Log” for Digsby, I know I used to like the old “*.log” files from Trillian, which were just simple text files for easy browsing. I can create this again making a “compiled.log” for each buddy! The only downside that I see is that you have to manually go to the folder to view them. But if the other option is not having them, I think it’s worth it.

  • Yahoo! Messenger Added
  • MSN Messenger Tweaks (thanks eia, for the direction)

Don’t forget to press that donate button ;-). Support a poor medical student! $1 x lots of users = “YAY, I can eat!”

Yahoo! Anybody?

April 29, 2008

Yahoo

With Trililan, Gaim/Pidgin and MSN pretty much knocked out, I started looking into Yahoo! Messenger as the next chat client to convert. Little did I know that these files are not “normal” and will take a little extra work to decode. I have found some helpful tools that will let me accomplish this though.

Quest is…is it needed? Anybody out there using Yahoo! now want to switch to Digsby?

New Release 4/26/2008 PM

April 26, 2008

New Version

  • MSN -> Digsby
  • Bug Fixes
  • Fixed UTC to Local Time Bug

This log converter DOES NOT convert all data from your old logs. I made the decision that only true messages would be converted. File Transfer Logs, Status Logs etc are not converted.

Thanks to nero for help debugging.

New Release 4/26/2008

April 26, 2008

I hope all is going well out there in Digsby land. I haven’t heard much one way or another if this has been successful for people or not. I would love to get some feedback, so feel free to post a response.

I still want to add features, like MSN converting - so please keep emailing me, posting comments on specific setups that need to be covered.

P.S. You’ll notice that when the conversion finishes, I put a “donate” button on the window. I am not a software developer; I am actually a medical student! So if you can throw me a buck, that would be great.

The Digsby Dilemma

April 25, 2008

I was recently introduced to a new IM Chat Client, Digsby (www.digsby.com). There seem to be new chat clients popping up every day, but there was something about Digsby that caught my eye. It might have been the goofy looking logo (is that an egg??) or maybe the name, though I think in the end it was the cool ability to “skin” the chat windows that drew me in.

So where does the dilemma come from? I have accumulated many years worth of chat logs. Chat logs of hate, chat logs of love, chat logs of technical information, cool websites etc. What the hell was I going to do with all those chat logs?

In comes Google - “convert trillian logs to digsby log”

First hit brings me right to many others suffering the way I was suffering…why must we be teased with such a promising product, yet be trapped by “the logs?”

Luckily, I had a solution. I am a computer whiz, I know that Ctrl+C -> Ctrl+V would let me copy my years worth of logs in no time……ok, maybe not.

Luckily, I had a solution. I am a computer nerd and know how to program! Out comes notepad++, regexbuddy, visual studio and after a couple hours I had a working prototype that would take all my old trillian logs, and convert them into properly formatted Digsby logs with the click of a button!

This converter is still probably considered alpha. It does not do anything to your old logs, they remain intact; so in case the conversion fails, the old logs are safe for another day.

Having discussed this with a couple people, it seems as if there is greater variability in logs then I thought there would be. While this doesn’t pose a huge problem, it will create a headache for you and me. If I need to ask you for examples of your log formats, please help me out!

So..without further ado…
